Inclusion criteria

diagnosis of probable early Alzheimer's disease
stable dose of acetylcholinesterase inhibitor
community dwelling
stable medical condition

Exclusion criteria

unstable and significant medical conditions
recurrent major psychiatric disorder
treatment with memantine
